Social work supervision

Social work supervision

Supervision enables social workers to operate in a safe and supportive environment that promotes good practice, allows reflection and aids continued professional development leading to improved practice. It also provides critical management oversight of case-work and decision-making and is a key element of quality assurance.

It is essential that supervision, particularly case supervision, is accurately recorded in order to provide evidence of how case decisions were made.

The recording template for case supervision is available on MOSAIC but the following templates should be used by supervisors to record personal supervision  and managers supervision.

Social worker personal supervision record

Manager supervision record

It is essential that staff and supervisors agree in advance how supervision will be conducted and should use the following templates as a means of recording this agreement.
