Mental Health Services in Camden

From 30 June 2025, we are introducing a new model of Mental Health Social Work in Camden.

We have recently been reviewing how our mental health social care teams operate, working closely with partners, staff, and people who use our services, in line with our statutory responsibilities. We heard a clear message: mental health social care and support should feel more connected, easier to access, and focused on what matters most to each individual.

This means that, moving forward, mental health social care will no longer be managed by North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) and instead will be delivered directly by Camden Council. This change won’t affect how closely we work together with the NHS - we’ll continue to work collaboratively to make sure people get the right care and support.

What’s staying the same

Residents will continue to receive clinical mental health input from existing NLFT Services.

We will continue to work closely together as teams - across the NHS and Camden Council - to ensure that Camden residents receive joined-up, holistic mental health care and support. People who use our services can expect:

  • Continued close collaboration between social workers, mental health professionals, and other support services
  • Support tailored to their needs, strengths and goals
  • A clear point of contact and continuity of care

What’s changing

We are creating a new Mental Health Social Work Hub to ensure that people know where to go for mental health social care and support and are able access to access the right support at the right time.

We are also introducing 3 new Neighbourhood Mental Health Social Work Teams based in the North, East, and South of the Borough and will:

  • Work closely with individuals, families, and their support network to understand what matters most
  • Work alongside NHS teams and wider partners to provide coordinated care and support
  • Offer care that’s easier to access, closer to home, and more focused on personal strengths, recovery, and independence

What this means for residents

Over the next week, we will be working with Mental Health Social Work staff to identify and allocate Social Work tasks.

If there are any changes specific to individuals, our team will be in touch with residents directly in the next few weeks to discuss their needs, as well as working alongside NLFT colleagues in order to arrange handover of work and agree joint working arrangements.
