Working with CLA

Social workers need to develop good relationships with CLA as it is likely to be one of the most important and enduring relationships for the child while they are looked after.

Gaining the child’s views, wishes and feelings is a crucial part of working with CLA in order to make sure their experience of being looked after is positive.

Social workers should ensure they consult with CLA prior to each CLA review using the CLA consultation forms. The forms have been designed to help CLA to get their views heard so that they can take part in the review process.

Guidance for consultations is also available for social workers to help them help the child to get the most out of the consultation process.
