A repository of resources to support and improve supervision practice for practitioners, supervisors and managers.

Supervision

Supervision is the cornerstone of good practice: its purpose is to establish accountability, support decision-making, professional development and wellbeing. The process of supervision between the member of staff and the supervisor ensures a link between the values, policies and statutory responsibilities of the organisation and the delivery of practice excellence.

Further information can be found in the Adult Social Care Supervision policy

Professional regulators (for example, Social Work England for social workers and the Health and Care Professional Council for Occupational Therapists) stress the importance of supervision to support practice and continuing professional development (CPD).

The Chief Social Worker / Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have introduced post qualifying standards for social work practice supervisors. Research in Practice has delivered some training to support organisations to think about embedding these standards. Further resources are available on the Research in Practice website.

The College of Occupational Therapists (COT) has developed supervision guidance to enable practitioners and managers to set up healthy and effective supervision practices. This provides ideas and information that will be useful to those providing supervision and those receiving it.
