Information and tools to support ASC staff to be prepared for CQC Assurance

CQC Assurance

Care Quality Commission (CQC) assurance is a review of how Camden Adult Social Care are delivering on their Care Act 2014 duties. Like Ofsted in Children and Learning, this process is the Adult Social Care version of an inspection.

In Camden, we are confident in the support we provide to residents. The CQC assurance will provide us an opportunity to gather evidence to showcase the great ways in which we support people whilst carrying out Care Act duties. 

The CQC inspectors will be visiting us during the week commencing 18 November.

We have all played a part in preparing for the CQC inspection. This is information on the steps that we have taken to prepare.

To support local authorities to prepare for the inspection, we have used the Association of Directors of Adult Social Care (ADASS) and Local Government Association's comprehensive guidance, published in December 2022.

This includes detailed work to develop our local self-assessment involving staff, people who draw on services and partners to enable a shared view of quality locally.

Peer review

In May 2023, we undertook a peer review with London ADASS to gain independent insight of our work and support our CQC preparations, particularly with regards to our arrangements for safeguarding and leadership.

Internal reviews

Managers and staff across ASC undertook an extensive internal quality assurance exercise.

Self-Assessment

Our self-assessment was submitted to the CQC in July and incorporates extensive feedback from managers and staff. This document provides a comprehensive overview of our services, and can be viewed on the self-assessment page in the Practice Guide. 

Information Return

All 38 required information sources were submitted in July.

Audit List

The 50 case audit list was submitted to the CQC in October, and the practitioners whose cases have been selected have been notified. The CQC inspectors have selected 10 of those cases and will meet with the practitioners as part of their onsite visit in November.

Engagement

There has been ongoing engagement with ASC staff. In August, we initiated kitchen conversations as informal, judgement-free spaces for staff to engage with senior management and share feedback or ask questions about any aspect of our service, including the ongoing CQC preparations.
