Closure notice

  • A closure notice allows the council or police to close premises for up to 48 hours (without going to court).

Closure order

  • A closure order allows the council or police to close premises for up to 6 months through the magistrates court after service of a closure notice.
  • They are both used if premises are used, or likely to be used, to cause nuisance or disorder.
  • They can both be used to deal with premises where ASB is causing nuisance or disorder such as noisy premises.
  • Breach of a closure order is a criminal offence.
