Family Early Help
How do I help a Ukrainian family open a bank account?
Opening a bank account is another important task to make sure universal credit payments can be made into it.
Here is a link to a blog about opening bank accounts which is translated into Ukrainian
Opening a UK bank or building society account if you are from Ukraine (moneyhelper.org.uk)
Most banks will ask for proof of identity including
- a valid passport
- Biometric Residents Permit
- driving licence
Proof of address may also be needed. Here is a standard letter template from Camden for Ukrainian refugees which you can complete and send to the family if they need a proof of address letter. Please make sure you send a PDF version, not a Word version.
Although Camden cannot recommend particular banks, we are aware that some banks are setting up a specific application process for Ukrainian refugees. One example is Natwest who have set up a dedicated webpage to give Ukrainian refugees the information they need to support their application, including translated guidance in Ukrainian and Russian.
You could also consider applying for a Post Office card account, but only if you can’t get a bank or building society account - find out more about Post Office card accounts.
