In-Person Crisis or Emergency Support

The Mental Health Crisis Assessment 24-hour Service at St Pancras Hospital is moving out of St Pancras due to redevelopment work.

Adults needing 24-hour emergency support will be seen by the emergency mental health teams in A&E at University College Hospital, Whittington or Royal Free Hospital until Summer 2023.

The telephone crisis line (see below) will still operate.

Here is a google map link for the three hospital A and E departments in case you need to send it to an adult in crisis or as part of safety planning:

Telephone Crisis or Emergency Support

The Camden & Islington Crisis Single Point of Access or C-Spa (0800 917 3333) is the single point of access for the CRT (Crisis Resolution Teams) within the Trust.

It is a telephone-only service which is staffed by CRT clinicians and offers a triage service for new referrals and a telephone counselling service for those service users who are in need of urgent support i.e., who may be at risk of harm to themselves or others and who do not require face to face contact there and then. It works in tandem with the CRT and is operational 24 hours per day.

Referral Criteria

Anyone can refer to this service.  This includes the service user themselves, their families or carers, the police, GP’s the Emergency Departments, the London Ambulance Service, local authority Social Services, Housing Associations, supported housing and other statutory and non-statutory providers and NHS111.

The service user must as a minimum be resident within the borough of Camden and Islington, ideally for a minimum of 6 months but if resident for less than this, or they are temporarily housed they can be seen with the proviso that they may be referred on to services within their usual area of residence at the earliest opportunity.

Who is the CRT service for?

The team prioritise the service for people suffering mental illness and who:

  • Are in a mental health crisis
  • Are being considered for admission to hospital
  • Are already in an inpatient/crisis house facility
  • Present with a risk to themselves or others
  • Are resident in the catchment area
  • Are aged 18 and upwards

In an emergency, call 999.
