Children looked after and care leavers
Children in permanent placements should have an opportunity to explore who in their family and friends network they would like to remain in contact with.
It is important that children who have been separated from their birth family are able to explore other relationships within their extended family and friends network so that they can retain a sense of identity and build a support network for when they are no longer looked after.
The life long links leaflet explains more about the scheme.
Life long links work is carried out by the Family Group Conference and social workers should use the referral form to refer children for this service.
