Assessment policy and practice guidance

Assessment is a key process that allows social workers to make sense of the child’s situation and the nature and extent of their needs, so they can make a professional judgement on the best intervention to safeguard and promote the child’s welfare.

Where the immigration status of a care leaver or family from abroad changes so that they have no recourse to public funds, social workers may need to carry out a Human Rights assessment.

It is unlawful for Camden to provide financial or other support to an individual who  has no legal right to be in the UK. However, Camden may provide support if it would breach the individual's human rights if support is not provided. To establish this social workers would need to carry out a Human Rights assessment.

Further information is available in the Families with No Recourse to Public Funds policy.
