This section provides an overview of the multi-disciplinary teams within Mental Health.

From 30th June 2025, a new model of Mental Health Social Work has been introduced in Camden.

Mental Health Adult Social Care Responsibilities

The Mental Health Social Work Service is responsible for meeting Camden Council’s statutory duties for adults whose social care needs relate to their mental health. These duties arise under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Mental Health Act 1983. 

Core responsibilities include: 

  • Promoting recovery, independence, wellbeing, and social inclusion. 

  • Addressing wider factors that impact a person’s mental health and wellbeing, including housing, employment, finances, relationships, and daily living support. 

  • Carrying out Care Act assessments using strengths-based, person-centred approaches. 

  • Determining eligibility and developing proportionate support plans. 

  • Leading Section 42 safeguarding enquiries. 

  • Delivering Mental Health Act responsibilities including AMHP functions and Section 117 aftercare. 

  • Completing Mental Capacity Act assessments, best interest decisions, and ensuring the least restrictive option. 

  • Supporting transitions, including discharge from hospital or moving from children's to adult’s services. 

  • Ensuring carers are involved and completing carer assessments under the Care Act. 

  • Recording practice clearly on Mosaic in line with local authority standards
