Who is in Adult Social Care
Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service
Camden’s Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service fulfils the local authority’s statutory duties under the Mental Health Act 1983.
AMHPs are specially trained professionals who coordinate and make decisions on Mental Health Act assessments to determine whether compulsory admission to hospital is necessary.
Key points:
-
AMHPs ensure that decisions are lawful, proportionate, and uphold the person’s human rights.
-
They assess in a range of settings, including hospitals, people’s homes, and police stations.
-
The service also provides advice to partners on Mental Health Act processes and the interface with Section 117 aftercare.
