Camden Easier Info (part of CLDS)

Legal requirement for easy read

Having your documents in easy read helps people who find it hard to understand written information, for example some people with learning disabilities or dementia.  Making reasonable adjustments for these people is required by the Equality Act.

Camden Easier Info offers

  • training in making accessible information
  • advice on making information easier to understand
  • access to Photosymbols
  • Wiki access and support
  • Multimedia training and resources

Plain English

All our information for residents should be clear and easy to understand. We can advise on how to modify forms, letter templates, leaflets etc. to ensure that this is the case.

How we can support you to get the job done

We can support you to convert a document into easy read or plain English by offering you training and a checking service.

Your first step is to make sure the text is

  • summarised - headlines/actions/decisions
  • jargon free - no technical language or difficult words
  • clear and concise

We can check and, if necessary, edit your text

If your document needs to be in easy read, you will then need to

  • lay out the document and add images
  • save as a PDF for electronic distribution and printing
