Easy read information about Living a Good life can be found here.
Living a Good Life is a project developed by Camden Learning Disabilities Service (CLDS), Synergy (a self-advocacy group), people in Camden with learning disabilities, parents and carers of people with learning disabilities, and providers of activities in Camden.
In 2021, Synergy told CLDS that that friendships, a sense of purpose and connecting with other people with a learning disability were crucial for their health and wellbeing. They also highlighted the importance of finding and joining new activities and being able to join in mainstream activities in the community.
You can watch Synergy’s manifesto video below:
Aims of the project
The key aims of the project are to support people to:
- live active, enjoyable lives, and have more choice and control
- do more of the things that matter to them and learn new skills
- make meaningful connections to their communities
- make and keep strong friendships
How the project aims will be achieved
The project is being delivered through:
- creating a digital About Me which is owned by the person – this is called a wiki. Wikis are portable, accessible and adaptable, updateable, and enable people to have the support they need when they need it from all providers
- establishing a ‘single and consistent point of access’ for all services and opportunities/activities for people with learning disabilities, coordinated across all learning disabilities and mainstream providers
- a disability job hub that supports people to get ready for training or employment, working alongside the person to understand what skills they need and equipping them with the skills that they need
