What Matters
This week is Occupational Therapy week, an annual event created by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists to celebrate the important work in the sector. As part of this week, we’re sharing some great news from within the borough that wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated OT team.
The team recently oversaw the installation of Wash/Dry toilet facilities at Kingsgate Centre and the Greenwood Centre. OT’s prescribed wash/dry toilets at the centres to support people to be able to clean themselves independently after using the facilities.
Wash/Dry toilet facilities provide an extra layer of accessibility over a typical disabled toilet. For Camden residents who are unable to unable to clean themselves after using the toilets, a normal disabled toilet would mean they require support to ensure they are clean. Both new facilities combine a toilet, a bidet, and a drying facility that allows people to use the toilet independently and with dignity.
These resources not only provide a vital service to visitors to Greenwood and Kingsgate, they also will allow the OT team to showcase the wash/dry toilets to advise their use elsewhere.
The installations are the culmination of joined up working across the council by the day services, OT team, and Camden repairs/trades. Through the joint efforts by these teams, people in Kingsgate and Greenwood can use facilities more independently.
