The London Open Garden’s Weekend is an annual event held at the start of June. Hosted by the London Parks and Gardens Trust, it showcases gardens around London, opening them to the public.

The garden at the Greenwood Centre was created and maintained by the Integrated Learning Disabilities gardening group supported by Green City Projects.

At Greenwood, the garden is comprised of several outdoor rooms, a flower and herb garden, an edible garden, and a wildlife garden. The name chosen by the was “A Little Mix of a Garden”. It summarised the variety that the garden at Greenwood has to offer, as well as a group members love of the band Little Mix!

Gardeners at the Greenwood Centre tended to the Little Mix of a Garden in the lead up to the London Open Garden weekend – a task made all the more challenging by local foxes digging up carefully placed plants overnight!

The Open Day

Throughout the day, we had 78 visitors to see the garden, with many coming for outside London to enjoy the Open Gardens event across the city. The day ran smoothly thanks to the work of people supported in the borough, Camden Staff, and external partners. Unity Works, who run the café at Greenwood staffed by trainee chefs with a learning disability, provided catering for the day, with cakes, drinks and light bites.

The Garden, the gardeners, and staff received some great compliments from members of the public, who left post-it notes in the Greenwood Centre.

The dedication and hard work of the gardeners from the Learning Disabilities gardening group, and the staff at the Greenwood centre ensured that the Little Mix of a Garden was a success.
