LGBTQ+ awareness

Information to raise awareness and improve understanding of the LGBTQ+ community

LGBTQ+ awareness

Camden has a zero-tolerance approach to abuse including hateful or inappropriate behaviour towards members of the LGBTQ+ community. Information is available that can help raise awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, different types of discrimination and how we can support LGBTQ+ people.

Part of supporting your LGBTQ+ colleagues is having an understanding that not everyone feels comfortable talking about their sexual orientation or gender identity.

There are things you can do to ensure that you are behaving in a supportive and inclusive way.  This includes:

  • joining the Camden Rainbow Network on Viva Engage to find out about events and webinars that are open to staff
  • adding pronouns to your email signature so that we make every person feel as comfortable as possible
  • use inclusive language - read theABC of LGBT inclusive communication guide produced by King's College London and community partners
  • attending webinars when they are publicised internally to support your learning and knowledge
  • be an ally and active bystander
  • You can also use access resources  by Stonewall that are focused on creating LGBTQ+ inclusive workplaces
