Data Matters

Information on why data matters and how we use data in Camden

Data Matters

Good quality data is fundamental to safe, effective Adult Social Care practice. It supports informed decision-making, protects people’s rights, improves outcomes, and helps us meet our legal and professional responsibilities. Data is not simply a reporting requirement; it is part of delivering person-centred care and supporting our What Matters approach.

Data and good case recording are closely linked. The Data Matters section should be read together with the Case Recording section of the Practice Guide to form a complete picture: Case Recording | Practice Guide

Why Data Matters

The information we record helps us understand a person’s needs, strengths, wishes, outcomes, and risks. Accurate and clear recording ensures the person’s voice is reflected in assessments, care and support planning, and reviews. It also enables practitioners to exercise professional judgement in a transparent and defensible way, supports continuity of care across services, and helps evidence how decisions have been reached.

Data are:

·       a legal and professional record,

·       a safeguard for practitioners,

·       and evidence for accountability and inspection.

Data also forms a part of a person’s story, and individuals should be able to recognise themselves in the information we hold about them.

In Camden, we are committed to collecting and using data lawfully, ethically, accurately, and securely, in ways that promote wellbeing and independence.

Camden’s Data Charter dictates how we collect and use data.
