Information from the Safeguarding Learning and Development Group meetings

Safeguarding Learning and Development Group

The Safeguarding Learning and Development Group (SLDG) meets bi-monthly to share and discuss learning and new developments in safeguarding practice, with practitioner led bite-sized training sessions and guest speakers sharing information on relevant topics.

The aim of the Safeguarding Learning and Development Group (SLDG) is to:

  • Drive the improvement of learning and development of safeguarding practice in Camden
  • Develop better inter-agency working links and processes with partners.
  • Share learning, research and experience in order to build greater confidence around adult safeguarding practice.
  • Improve Knowledge and understanding around managing safeguarding concerns
  • Develop approaches to promote outcome-focussed solutions and person-centred approaches to safeguarding processes.

Representatives are encouraged to attend from all teams across Adult Social Care and Mental Health so that safeguarding updates, information and practice messages are taken back and shared within teams so information is disseminated across the service. The group is generally aimed at frontline practitioners in Adult Social Care and the mental health teams but we also have attendees from other key partners such as ReThink and Age UK.

Recent meetings have covered topics such as cuckooing, tackling self-neglect and hoarding, learning and practice messages from a recent safeguarding cases, trends arising from COVID such as increased scams and the rise in domestic abuse, the use of family group conference in safeguarding, updates on safeguarding process and recording expectations, feedback from safeguarding audits in Camden and also from SARS, and feedback or updates from other safeguarding training or forums.
