Information about the Prevent strategy and training available

Prevent

Prevent is a strategy created by the government to respond to a range of threats faced in the UK; it is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism.

Through the L&D hub you can access the free specialist workshop, designed by HM Government, to give you an introduction to the Prevent strategy and your role in safeguarding vulnerable people.

Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP)

WRAP training features video content that explains Prevent (the Government's counter-terrorism strategy), the radicalisation process, how to identify at-risk people, how to raise concerns and appropriate safeguarding responses. The workshop also features a discussion on the principles applying to all forms of extremism and helps professionals counter extremist narratives as well as discussions on respect, tolerance, shared values and community cohesion.

The trainer also promotes a catalogue produced by the Home Office to highlight some of the publically accessible Prevent related training courses that may assist individuals covered by the requirements of the Prevent Duty, contained in Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015.

Hate Crime Training

You can also access training on Hate Crime through TDS. This training provides you with an overview of all forms of hate crime including racism, xenophobia, religious intolerance, homophobia, transphobia and disablism.

During this training our trainer highlights the real issues that we face in Camden and its impact upon those either directly or indirectly affected by it; explaining that Hate crime can create an environment where communities feel under attack and lead to unconscious self-censorship of the way people express themselves which in turn impairs the ability of victims to participate fully in families, workplaces and our local society. A secondary aim of the training is to equip professional and frontline staff with how best to support victims.
