Neurodiversity

These pages explain what neurodiversity is and aim to raise awareness on how neurodiverse people could be better supported.  Information is available on why neurodiversity matters and there are resources provided to enable you to increase your learning.  If you have any feedback regarding the content or would like to add information, please contact Jake Binns or  Fung-yee Lee.  Also available are separate pages on autism.

For the most up to date information please visit the Neurodiversity Yammer Communities.

It is important that as an organisation we continue to raise awareness about neurodiversity. However it is equally as important to ensure that our neurodiverse colleagues are in an environment where their differences are accepted.

Allowing a neurodiverse person to 'be themselves' is key so they don't have to 'mask' their condition.  It also helps their creativity, innovation and straightforwardness emerge and these are some of the real positives that neurodiverse staff can bring.

Below are few steps we can all take to support our neurodiverse colleagues at in the workplace:

  • Get to know your employee
  • Listening to their neurodivergent employees as to how they can be supported better in the workplace
  • Learn about your employee's unique strengths and challenges
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive environment
  • Discuss what visual prompts would help aid attentiveness.
  • Remove jargon from communications (or consider Easy Read options).
