Identity Matters: Learning Sessions

Identity Matters: Learning Sessions

In 2022- 2023 a series of webinars were designed and delivered in ASC with the theme Putting Identity at the Heart of Practice. The webinars were commissioned by SMT as an area of action in the ASC Equalities Plan (co-designed by SMT, reaching in /reaching out and our staff equalities taskforce) which seeks to tackle and reduce the structural inequalities experienced by staff and residents. Putting identity at the heart of practice with a focus on intersectionality is also a priority in the work to further embed strengths based practice across adult social care in Camden.

As part of the wider What Matters plan to further embed strengths-based practice across ASC, we hosted our first in a series of reflective webinars: Putting Identity at the Heart of practice. In this webinar, we explored the meaning of identity, which as you will appreciate will mean different things to different people, and how we can put it at the heart of practice via the use of systemic tools and models.

It was a collective effort that included contributions from:

  • Sal Bryant – Project Manager (ASC Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion)
  • Shabnam Ahmed- Lead Practitioner
  • Annette Thompson- Lead Practitioner
  • Arlene Jones – Social Worker
  • Tim Fisher- Service Manager- FCG and Restorative Practice
  • Stella Smith – Principal Social Worker
  • Jess McGregor – Director of ASC

However, the main speaker was Arlene Jones, our colleague from Children’s, who we invited to talk about the GRACES tool she has expert experience in working with families to understand their cultural identity, challenges, and strengths. Children’s were recently rated as outstanding by Ofsted, so it was a real privilege to have this opportunity to learn from them.

You can watch back the Reflective Webinar 1: Identity matters. The session was a great success.

You can see the presentation slides which includes Arlene's GRACES tool.
