Information on learning and development resources in Adult Social Care

Learning and development

Nurturing and supporting our workforce is a key principle of valuing our staff. Camden is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to a comprehensive learning and development plan that will help them advance in their professional development and also equip them with skills and knowledge to carry out their role safely, effectively and to a high standard.

Further information can be found on the Learning at Camden page on Essentials

Camden subscribes to high quality learning sources. We encourage staff to use and explore other sources to support learning and reflection.

Research in Practice - brings together academic research, practice expertise and the experiences of people accessing services, applying this knowledge to developing a range of resources and learning opportunities.

To access resources you need to go to the website www.researchinpractice.org.uk. You can then create an online account with your organisational email address (camden.gov.uk or candi.nhs.uk) which will give you full access to all the resources:

  • Downloadable publications, podcasts and recorded webinars.
  • Access places at national events, workshops and conferences.
  • Access live one-hour online lunchtime learning workshops (webinars) by sector and subject experts – also available to all to watch back on the website.
  • Sign up for the Research and Policy update, a monthly digest and review of the latest research and policy news, themed on relevant social care subjects.
  • Sign up for the monthly e-bulletin for partners, signposting to news, information, newly published resources and upcoming events.

Making Research Count - an initiative facilitating the dissemination of research findings between academics, practitioners, carers and users in the social care field. There is a programme of webinars covering a range of topics: beds.ac.uk/iasr/mrc/events/. Places are free for Camden members.

Making Every Contact Count - is about using the conversations you are already having to deliver additional support and advice where appropriate to help local people improve their wellbeing

But you don't need to feel limited to sites above. You are encouraged to explore the topics you're interested in the same ways you might do in everyday life – discuss the subject with other people, do searches on the internet, read articles and books, and perhaps even give it a go!

The Just-in-Time Toolkit - multimedia resources to help you gain essential management, leadership and personal effectiveness skills, and build happy, successful careers.

This learning 'in the work' is as developmental as attending a course, and you can add it to your learning record on the learning and development hub. Just click on 'My Learning' -> 'Record of Learning' -> 'Other Evidence' and add a short note about what you've learnt and how you learnt it. This will mean you have a record of all your learning in one place, should you need it.
