Support from an advocate

What an advocate can do

When an advocate is nominated by a tenant, they   will be able to communicate with Housing and Property Services about housing issues such as rent, repairs, allocations, and tenancy. This includes:

  • Raise queries or requests

  • Asking questions about payments and services

  • Informing us about changing circumstances

  • Responding to requests for information

  • Attending appointments with the tenant

  • View and update information online

It will be the responsibility of the advocate to use the information we give them in the best interest of the tenant. They will not be able to:

  • Make decisions for the tenant

  • Sign forms, agreements, or statements

  • Get copies of letters or other direct communication

The above permissions will differ if the named advocate is a power of attorney. Please see the government guidance for permissions in these instances.

Permission is not required for professional statutory advocates provided by Camden Council services
