Vulnerability
Our housing guidance site
While people with substance use and addiction problems come from all walks of life and different backgrounds, they are often affected by multiple disadvantages, either as a consequence or as a cause of their drug dependence. As such, it's important to see the person holistically and consider any other barriers or vulnerabilities they might be facing.
If a tenant shared with you their challenges around addiction, try to respond in an empathetic and non-judgmental way. People with experience of substance use can often feel shame and be concerned about confidentiality, so coming forward is a big step.
