Vulnerability
Our housing guidance site
Overcrowding can seriously impact tenants' well-being, leading to poor physical and mental health, children sharing beds, and families sleeping in non-bedroom spaces. Research by the National Housing Federation in 2022 highlights overcrowding as a key sign of wider housing issues.
As a local authority, Camden Council is committed to supporting tenants living in overcrowded conditions.
This process resource sets out the steps and support available to help manage and reduce overcrowding in council homes. It is intended for use by staff across housing teams, including Neighbourhoods, Allocations, Floating Support, and Homelessness Prevention.
