Experience of homelessness

Experience of homelessness

The homelessness systems toolkit is a comprehensive guide to support for people with experience of homelessness.

What can help?

Collaboration around sharing risks: Risk sharing and addressing risks before they escalate, via forums – for example Team Around Me and High-Risk Panels, working together to provide interventions

Working together to put the person at the centre: Staff working together around a person and working towards what matters to the individual - Team Around Me is a very good format for this. As well as using the Personal Passport

Outreach: Services who join other teams on outreach. By doing this workers are active in seeking referrals and provide advice to other colleagues

Time to build relationships: Staff who have time to build relationships with someone and conduct assessments over a longer period. Perseverance can be key.

Sharing knowledge & giving advice to others: Sharing knowledge and providing support to colleagues in the homelessness sector

Empowerment: When we recognise the personal, cultural and structural barriers that people face, and adapt practise to overcome them whilst understanding and appreciating their strengths, and empowering them to realise their rights
