Removal of former tenants' belongings

Removal of former tenants' belongings

As a local authority we have specific legal duties when we find belongings, whether in a flat, a shed, or on communal areas.  This is different to duties for private landlords or to housing associations.  The guidance here relates to when we find belongings in a residential council home but the same legal advice applies for all council owned property.

When a property contains aids the NHO should contact Occupational Therapy (OT) duty in order to arrange collection (tel. 7974 4444 option 2).

  • It’s best to try to clarify when a collection will take place when placing the call. Then a void can be progressed flagging up what needs collecting and when this will happen.

If there is only one small piece of equipment i.e. one bath board or one toilet seat then it may not be worth collecting. OT duty will be able to advise you if you are in any doubt.

Hospital beds should be phoned through to Medequip on 020 8709 7050.
