Tenant requests

Tenant requests

This section gives examples of questions frequently asked by tenants, which may not be covered elswhere in the Hub.

How long can I go away for?

We expect tenants to tell us if they will be away for more that three months.

A tenant can leave their home for up to six months and have someone like a friend or relative live there and act as their agent, but we need to give our written agreement in advance.

This is different to sub-letting which is not allowed.

Sometimes we might agree a period longer than 6 months for tenants studying or working away temporarily, but we must be satisfied that the tenancy address remains the main home.
