Tenant requests

Tenant requests

This section gives examples of questions frequently asked by tenants, which may not be covered elswhere in the Hub.

Can my friend move in?

Tenants don’t need our permission for a friend/relative/partner to move in.

It is sensible to tell us if someone else is moving in so that we can update our records. If a tenant receives housing benefit or a council tax reduction they should tell the benefit service. If they receive universal credit they should tell the DWP.

Tenants may break their tenancy conditions if they become overcrowded by letting people move in with them.

Can I go away temporarily and leave a friend in my home?

It is different if they wish a friend to move in when they won't be occupying.

Read more about that here.

Can I have a letter to confirm that my wife/husband/relative can move in?

We can write a letter confirming that a tenant does not need our permission for a family member to move in with them. We can also confirm the size of their home.
