An overview of secure tenancies in Camden.
Secure tenancies (or lifetime tenancies) were introduced by the 1980 Housing Act. The Act introduced various rights of secure tenants such as the right to succeed and the right to buy.
We can only take possession of a home of a secure tenant by:
Secure tenants have this right, however, we must first give our permission in writing. Introductory tenants do not have this right.
We will not unreasonably refuse our permission however satellite dishes will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances and security grilles and gates must meet London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority safety guidelines.
All tenants have the right to be consulted and have their views considered on how we manage their homes. They also have a right to be informed about our allocation policy.
Although the tenancy conditions say there is a £10 charge if tenants want a copy of their records the GDPR abolished this charge and we provide these for free.
and sublet part of a home but not to sublet the whole property. Introductory tenants do not have this right.
with a discount after being a public sector tenant for 3 years. Time spent as an introductory tenant counts towards this. This doesn't apply to sheltered housing tenants or homes that have been adapted.
