Starting tenancies

This section is about information for new tenants. It includes two check lists. The new tenant checklist covers information that most new tenants need to know (it can also be used to capture information about them). The sign-up checklist covers the essential steps for the “sign up.”  There are also “sign up packs” which include the paper documents needed.

Home contents insurance

  • As part of our dialogue in helping tenants start their new tenancies we can encourage taking up home contents insurance.  
  • Many tenants mistakenly believe that we are responsible for their home contents in the event of a flood or other event.   If they don't wish to take out their own home contents insurance, they can apply through us and pay insurance as part of their weekly rent.  
  • At present the company we are using is Ageas and there is a form here.  This also lists the cost per week depending upon sum insured.
  • The webpage with more information is here.  This can be emailed to tenants for more information.
  • It covers most household goods and contents including replacement of external locks (if keys lost or stolen) and freezer contents.  Losses are dealt with on a "new for old" basis.
  • The completed form should be returned to the Rents and charges team, London Borough of Camden, Town Hall, Judd St, London WC1H 9JE
