We intervene early and offer support to create sustainable tenancies.

Starting tenancies

This section is about information for new tenants. It includes two check lists. The new tenant checklist covers information that most new tenants need to know (it can also be used to capture information about them). The sign-up checklist covers the essential steps for the “sign up.”  There are also “sign up packs” which include the paper documents needed.

How we start tenancies

We start our dialogue with our new tenants as early as we can.  Often this is when we are showing them around a void flat.

The new tenant checklist on the top right hand side of this page will help you remember to cover everything in conversations with new tenants from the viewing up to when you need to set the tenancy date.

The voids procedure covers what we consider when setting a tenancy date including what to do with a tenancy agreement after it has been signed.

The sign up checklist will help you cover everything when carrying out the sign-up.

Please also include the DV flyer.  This will also be added to the signup checklist in future.

If you are printing off a sign up pack please use this checklist rather than the one in the pack for now.

The sign-up pack includes leaflets that you can hand to a new tenants but this guidance site also will help you cover most of what you need to.

Although the tenancy conditions say we may take photos of new tenants, this hasn't started in practice yet.

Remember to bear in mind if we don't own the freehold

It is good to get any money issues and worries about paying the rent addressed as early as possible.

Advise tenant that most gas and electric accounts are currently registered with Ovo (and they can change supplier at any time).  However, to check this they can check the following links:

Read more about Energy Angels who switch our supplies at present.

Please make sure you point people to the the housing privacy notice on the website as we need to provide data about new tenants to the Government and to utilities companies.
