Safeguarding adults at risk

What happens next?

Where referrals meet the threshold for section 42 and there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect, the case is allocated to a Social Worker in Adults' Social Care and a Safeguarding Adults Manager, and a formal investigation begins.

Where the person at risk is a social housing tenant or household member, the staff members responsible for coordinating a safeguarding response on behalf of housing and property management are as follows:

  • For tenants and household members living in Camden Council managed homes - the Neighbourhood Housing Officer

  • For tenants living in Sheltered Housing, the Sheltered Housing Manager

These Officers will work closely with social care to respond to any housing risk factors. This includes attendance of case conferences, emergency strategy meetings, sharing of information, and monitoring risk.

There may be time when other Officers need to contribute information or actions e.g. Income Officers for rent support, Lettings for housing allocations.

For more on and guidance, please see the toolkit linked above.
