Housing and mental health are often linked. Poor mental health can make it harder to cope with housing problems and vice versa. You can assist residents to access help if they are experiencing mental health problems. You should encourage them to talk to their GP. Some mental health services can be accessed through self referrals.
A GP may do the initial assessment by asking questions about mood, thoughts and lifestyle to help them to understand the mental state of a person and will begin to make a diagnosis.
People with complex mental health disabilities, their illnesses are very severe, there are significant challenges with treating them, and several other factors often further complicate their illnesses.
Complex mental health illnesses includes schizophrenia, bipolar and personality disorders.
