Housing and mental health are often linked. Poor mental health can make it harder to cope with housing problems and vice versa. You can assist residents to access help if they are experiencing mental health problems. You should encourage them to talk to their GP. Some mental health services can be accessed through self referrals.
Mental illness is common and can affect anyone. While some people cope by getting support from their family and friends, or by getting help with other issues in their lives, others need clinical care and treatment, which could be from the NHS, support groups or charities.
