The right to buy

Must be their only or main home
Public sector tenant for 3 years - includes previous (does not have to be 3 years in a row)
The property is self-contained
Camden has sufficient interest in the property i.e. - Are we the freeholder of the block/property? - Do we have a head lease? If so, there must be a minimum of 50 years remaining on our lease.
People who can share the right to buy
Joint Tenants
A Spouse/Civil Partner who lives with the tenant at the time of application.
up to 3 family members who’ve lived with the tenant for the past 12 months (includes sons/daughters including step-children, nieces, nephews but excludes son/daughter in-laws).
Other important information
Leaseholder services must accept or deny the application within 4 weeks. We can be served a delay notice otherwise.
The NHO will be asked to complete a verification report to inform this decision which might require a visit. Return form within 10 days.
Let leaseholder services know if a home visit is needed but access not provided. Application can be denied in these circumstances.
Adding or removing a tenant's name while application is live will cause it to be withdrawn and tenant will need to reapply.
Advise leaseholder services if a notice is served for tenancy breach.
Once a right to buy application is submitted
Re-housing applications will be suspended.
The Council will only carry out essential internal repairs to the property.
Housing Benefits payments may stop.
NHOs will be contacted when a tenant accepts their offer, to check lease plans are correct and when a completion date has been set.
Completing a right to buy
Leaseholder services will end their tenancy and rent account.
If they rent a garage, parking space or shed they will need to contact the estate parking and access team to continue letting these spaces.
