Floating Support – The service consists of support workers who work to prevent homelessness amongst vulnerable households, and to support people to move to and sustain independent accommodation
Can a Council Tenant be referred to Floating Support for an allocated Floating Support worker?
No. Following the recent restructure of tenancy and support services, Floating Support Services (FSS) no longer provide support to general council tenants. Support for general council tenancies is now provided by the Neighbourhoods service, and each tenant will have an allocated Neighbourhoods Officer (NHO) they can contact for advice and assistance.
FSS will continue to support client where referrals from Homelessness Prevention Services have been made and accepted upon review or council tenants referred through the Pathways Move-On scheme, providing initial resettlement support for those moving from Temporary Accommodation (TA) into council tenancies. This support is usually for a maximum of 12 months.
For more details, please see the eligibility criteria.
Does FSS provide personal support?
No. FSS does not offer domestic cleaning, support with hoarding or flat clearances, or personal care tasks such as cooking or dressing.
How long does FSS support clients for?
FSS is a needs-based service so the duration of support is tailored to each client. The support provided is usually around 12 months however support can be shorter or extended depending on individual needs.
For clients on the Pathway Move-On scheme, where support has been provided for 12 months and there are no remaining needs, we would refer them back to their NHO. FSS work jointly with the NHO and all professionals involved in the client’s care.
How can I find out the FS worker for a client?
Contact the duty desk, and an officer will be able to provide the information. Internal extension: 5366.
Do we work with clients in Temporary Accommodation (TA)?
Following the recent restructure, FSS work with a designated cohort of TA clients. We currently do not have capacity to work with all TA residents. However, if you have a client of concern or someone who is particularly vulnerable, you can discuss them with Homelessness Prevention Services, who may add them to the list of clients we are supporting.
If you have access to the Housing Needs Group (HNG) database, you can make an internal referral directly. If you do not have access, you should use the FSS referral form.
What type of tenancies do you support?
We support clients in Housing Associations and Private Rented tenancies.
We support a designated cohort of TA clients through the Pathway Move-On Scheme.
We support clients moving from TA into an independent tenancy.
