Local Community Sources of Support

Local Community Sources of Support

This section contains information about local sources of support available for families.

Please try and connect your families to as much local support as possible. Feeling loved and supported by friends, neighbours and community are important all the time, and never more so than in a crisis. We are blessed to have so many friends in Camden's incredible VCS, who can be an essential part of a family's scaffolding network.

Camden Community Navigation and Social Prescribing

This partnership between Voluntary Action Camden, Age-UK Camden and Wishplus. It offers:

  • personalised support for residents who require one-to-one assistance to access the help they need including health, finances, employment, housing and social isolation

  • support for residents who as a result of COVID may need to self-isolate and want additional support to be able to do so, by accessing for example food supplies and medication prescriptions.

Referral Criteria

  • Must be a Camden resident 18+

AND at least one of the following:

  • Socially isolated i.e. living alone and have no friends/ family support or self-isolating with no access to friends or family support
  • Finding it difficult to understand what to do; this could be due to feeling overwhelmed/ low confidence or communication/language challenges
  • May find it difficult to take the next step to access services/ support they need e.g. due to mental health, low confidence.
  • Has one or more long-term health condition/s and needs additional non-clinical support to manage their health and wellbeing

For a conversation about a potential referral, please contact Nasrin Rashid on 07398180679 or Mandira Manandhar on 07398681695

NHS Volunteers

These are the volunteers who signed up during the national COVID volunteer campaign. They can help with shopping, collecting prescriptions and other tasks.

We can request help for someone using this link:

goodsamapp.org/NHSreferral

When we submit a request for help, the Goodsam app identifies an NHS community responder volunteer in the local area and alerts them.

Families who are shielding are prioritised but we have been told by NHS England that because there are so many volunteers, the scheme can be used for any family who is isolating.
