Help for Under 5s

This section contains information about help specifically for families with under 5s, including Little Village baby bank (emergency essential packs, bedding, equipment, clothes and toys), and links to Integrated Early Years information.

Healthy Start Food Vouchers and Vitamins

Are you on low income and pregnant or have at least one child under the age of four? You can get financial help to buy fruit, vegetables, pulses, milk, and infant formula for you and your family. If eligible, you will be sent a prepaid card with weekly top-ups which you can use like a debit card to spend on Healthy Start items. 

You could receive around £440 over a year while your child is under one, £220 a year for each child aged one to three (under four), and about £140 while more than 10 weeks pregnant. 

 All pregnant women under 18 are entitled to both a free Healthy Start vitamins and a Healthy Start prepaid card.

Families who have NRPF (no recourse to public funds)

Mothers who have no recourse to public funds are eligible for Healthy Start scheme to people who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have parental responsibility for at least one British child who is less than 4 years old
  • Have a family take-home pay of less than £408 per month
  • Are excluded from claiming public funds due to a current (or lack of) immigration status
