Direct Work and the Rights of the Child
Every time you do a piece of work that enables the child's voice and opinion to be heard, you are helping them assert their rights, embodied in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (see particularly rights 12, 13 and 14).
Equally, when you do a piece of work that enables the parents voice and opinion to be heard, you are helping them achieve their rights embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (see rights 18 and 19).
Direct work is certainly not the only way to help children and families assert their human rights - but its an important aspect to direct work that doesn't often get talked about.
