Family Early Help
Booster Vaccinations
The JCVI has recommended to the Government that all adults over 18 who have had their first two vaccinations should receive a booster vaccination (29 November 2021). If this becomes Government policy, you can find the NHS booster vaccination booking site here Book or manage a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
FSCF frontline workers, including managers who do face-to-face visits, can book their booster vaccination now. You will need the proof of eligibility letter sent round on 15 November 2021. If you don't have this letter, please ask your line manager.
Vaccinations and Children
From September 2021, all young people aged 12 to 15 are now being offered a first dose of the COVID-19 (Pfizer) vaccine to help protect them from catching and spreading the virus within schools and to family members. On 29 November 2021, the JVCI recommended 12-15 year olds also receive a second dose (not yet Government policy, an update will be added here as soon as there is a confirmed change).
The NHS is delivering the vaccine programme in schools, similar to the way that other school-aged vaccinations such as HPV and flu are delivered. Parents and carers will be asked for consent beforehand and are encouraged to make this decision jointly with their children.
Public Health England (now the UK Health Security Agency) has updated its page of resources for young people and their families with answers to some frequently asked questions
You can also read the PHE Vaccination Guide for Young People here and the PHE Vaccination Guide for Parents here
Children and their families will be contacted by their school or registered GP surgery to let them know when they can get vaccinated. For more information specifically for Camden, visit northcentrallondonccg.nhs.uk/my-health/covid-19/covid-19-vaccinations.
On 19 July 2021, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised that children at increased risk of serious COVID disease are offered the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. That includes children aged 12 to 15 with severe neurodisabilities, Down’s syndrome, immunosuppression and multiple or severe learning disabilities.
The JCVI also recommended that children and young people aged 12 to 17 who live with an immunosuppressed person should be offered the vaccine. This is to indirectly protect their immunosuppressed household contacts, who are at higher risk of serious disease from COVID-19 and may not generate a full immune response to vaccination.
Young people aged 16 to 17 with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious COVID should have already been offered vaccination. Young people aged 16 to 17 years who are employed in, studying or in training for, health and social care work will also continue to be eligible for vaccination.
JCVI have also recommended an ongoing offer of vaccination to those about to turn 18 years old, so that those within 3 months of their 18th birthday are eligible for vaccination. The JCVI is not currently advising routine vaccination of children outside of these groups, but it will keep its advice under review.
