In this section, you will find general information about Camden schools during COVID, including open and closed schools, free school meals, school transport, uniform and COVID testing in schools. Every Camden school will be approaching the school day differently according to their unique circumstances, so please advise parents to contact their child's school directly for information and advice.

Free School Meals extended to some children who are NRPF 

 The Government has permanently extended free school meal eligibility to children in all households with no recourse to public funds (NRPF), subject to maximum income thresholds.

This guidance explains who these groups are and how schools can verify their eligibility and award free school meals.

Schools and local authorities are not able to use the eligibility checking system (ECS) to confirm eligibility for these families as the family will not be in receipt of Universal Credit or legacy benefits.

These groups include, but may not be limited to children of:

  • Zambrano carers
  • families who have no recourse to public funds with a right to remain in the UK on grounds of private and family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights
  • families receiving support under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 who are also subject to a no recourse to public funds restriction
  • a subset of failed asylum seekers supported under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Chen carers
  • families holding a BN(O) passport
  • spousal visa holders
  • work visa holders
  • student visa holders
  • those with no immigration status

The maximum income threshold differs based on your location and the number of children that your family has.

Free Supermarket Vouchers For the Summer Holidays 

If your child gets free school meals or you receive Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit, you’ll get £45 supermarket vouchers for each child to help with costs over the summer holidays. Camden sends these vouchers by email to parents.

If a parent doesn't have have access to the internet or can’t download the voucher, their local library or children’s centre can help. If the letter doesn’t arrive or the parents need any other support, please call 020 7974 4444 (option 9).
