Local Community Sources of Support

This section contains information about local sources of support available for families.

Please try and connect your families to as much local support as possible. Feeling loved and supported by friends, neighbours and community are important all the time, and never more so than in a crisis. We are blessed to have so many friends in Camden's incredible VCS, who can be an essential part of a family's scaffolding network.

Family Group Conference (FGC) is a meeting bringing together family, friends and community to help a family looking to solve a problem or make a change.  Together, they make a plan to help the family get where they want to be. Here in Camden, we have Early Help FGC and they're BRILLIANT.

We are one of only a handful of authorities in the country to use FGC in early help because we believe families own social networks, of people who care about them, can often find the solutions and help a family to make lasting change. We have used early help FGC alongside family work, as part of family work closure or to plan good endings, or as a support for families in its own right.

FGCs can work with whoever the family have in their social network. They can choose who to have at their FGC. Here is a short film from Faye, whose friends came to her FGC to help her when she was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Here is a flyer about early help FGC. To talk about an FGC for a family, or to get advice, contact Tim Fisher or Hina Patel on Outlook.
