Support When it Matters (SWIM)
Evidence gathered during the pandemic showed that the lack of targeted and culturally sensitive support for African Caribbean heritage communities has a negative effective on their health and well-being.
SWIM works to raise health awareness, improve access to primary care support and bring about change by:
- Encouraging people to take action
- Providing culturally sensitive advice
- Collating our insights into community-specific intelligence
The SWIM team is made up of professionals including recovery workers and community engagement officers, who provide support to males from African and Caribbean heritage. They provide support to:
- Reduce re-offending or reconnecting with criminal associates
- Drug and alcohol support
- Mental health outreach
- Social inclusion & employability support
