Seasonal Support

Information for practitioners on supporting people over both hotter and colder months.

Seasonal Support

During both hotter and colder times of year it can be challenging for people to keep healthy, active, and socially connected. When meeting with residents and having conversations about what matters to them, it is important to be aware of organisations and resources that can support during summer and winter periods.

Although the summer months are often an easier time for people to stay well and connected, hotter weather can pose challenges for many people, such as people over 65, children and babies, people with certain health conditions or those who live alone.

The government has released guidance for carers, social care managers and staff on supporting vulnerable people before and during hot weather. The guidance can be read in full on the GOV.UK website and covers areas such as:

  • Who is most at-risk during hot weather and heat waves
  • How to recognise heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and what to do when this occurs
  • Preparing for hot weather - how to manage risks and keep environments cool
  • Guidance for carers during hot weather
  • Guidance for activities and when to avoid being outside
  • Information on storing medication

Further guidance and resources can be also be found below:
