Quick guidance regarding Shared Lives Schemes for practitioners

Shared Lives

Shared Lives Camden is a service where adults with care needs are given the opportunity to live in the homes of people who will support them.  People with care needs will share a home with a carer and in some instances the carer and their family and will be supported to lead an independent, healthy life as part of the community.  These arrangements can be short stays and something more long-term.

For more information regarding shared lives please email the shared lives team [email protected].  You can also watch a video about shared lives here

Within Camden Adult Social Care our statement of purpose currently states that we support Adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism.  The Camden scheme is currently only registered to provide a service for people with LD and Autism.  However, there are plans to extend this offer to people with Mental ill health and older people in approximately one year.

If you are unsure if a person would be suitable for the shared lives scheme please get in contact with the shared lives team by emailing [email protected] and they will be happy to discuss individual cases as the service is reviewed on a regular basis and looking at different cases enables the Shared Lives team to capture information about wide ranging and differing community needs.

The Shared Lives scheme is safe as it is:

  • Registered and monitored by CQC.
  • 98% of the country wide schemes are rated as good or excellent.
  • Has the lowest number of safeguarding concerns in the care sector.
  • Shared lives carers are fully supported and trained by the shared lives scheme.
  • Shared lives carers and any support carers are DBS checked.
