Information on the Sensory Needs Team, making reasonable adjustments and the Big Word

Sensory Needs

It is important to support residents to be able to access services within their community and this may require making reasonable adjustments.  The Sensory Needs team are able to provide support to any residents (children, adults and families) who are blind or partially sighted; D/deaf or hard of hearing or both significant hearing and sight loss.

Please refer to the Council website for further information on the Sensory Needs team.

Beyond the Sensory Needs Team, advice and support is also available from a range of organisations found here. This list includes organisations which specialise in certain eye conditions, and those who may also have additional health conditions or disabilities.

There are many more charities for lesser known conditions or specialist groups such as for blind parents or blind children. To learn more about these groups please call the RNIB helpline on 0303 123 9999.

The RNIB also has a lot of useful information on various eye conditions here: Eye conditions | RNIB

BlindAid is also able to support people with sight loss. They can visit people at home to help them with their post. They also hold a range of classes for people in Camden as part of their Camden Community Project, such as:

  •     I.T. (beginner and intermediate level)
  •     Cooking and healthy eating
  •     Yoga
  •     Arts and crafts
  •     Creative writing

The classes take place at The St Pancras and Somers Town Living Centre

NW1 1DF. Referrals can be made by emailing [email protected] or by phoning 020 7403 6184.
