Personal Finance Service

Information on the personal finance service, eligibility and the role of practitioners

Personal Finance Service

Within ASC it is essential that our residents receive a high quality service from the Personal Finance Service (PFS) and practitioners in relation to the management of their personal finances when they are no longer able to manage this themselves. PFS caseworkers and practitioners must work closely with individuals to uphold key elements in the Care Act 2014 including informed choice, control, personalisation and protection from abuse.

Further information for practitioners on how to apply and manage Appointee & Deputy for Property & Affairs cases can be found in the PFS guidance.

In order to refer to the Personal Finance Service, you will need to:

  1. Complete the relevant documentation within the PFS application bundle. This includes:
  1. Obtain whatever financial information you can from person/family/friends/Awards and Contributions Team (ACT) etc. regarding bank accounts, savings, debts etc. Essential supporting documents include:
  • ID - Birth Certificate and/or Passport
  • DWP letter
  • tenancy agreement
  • bank statements

Send this information as part of your application bundle when you make the referral to PFS.

  1. Check with [email protected] whether the person owes any debt to Camden.
  2. Obtain sign-off from your Team Manager to make PFS referral.

Once you have completed all of these steps, send all of the required documents to the PFS Service Manager, Janet Lee, for screening: [email protected]

If your referral is accepted

You will need to take the referral papers and obtain sign-off by your Head of Service. Once this is completed, return the papers to Janet Lee (PFS Service Manager) who will send to the Director of Adult Social Care for final sign off.

Once accepted, the PFS Service Manager will allocate a Finance caseworker to commence management of the finances.

A financial review will need to be completed every 12 months by an allocated practitioner.

If your referral is not accepted

If information is missing or incomplete, you may be asked to provide additional details, and re-refer to the PFS Service Manager. You will be advised at this stage what needs to be amended for the referral to be accepted.

Referrals will not be accepted where the person does not meet the eligibility criteria for support from PFS. This includes the person's finances or property being valued over £23,500. In this case you will need to refer to Legal Services to process an application to Court of Protection for a Panel Deputy to be appointed.

If you have any questions or concerns about making a referral to PFS you are welcome to contact [email protected], or you can discuss with your Team or Service Manager.
