ASC Practice Guide
A person is assessed as being eligible for support, Direct Payments will be discussed with them throughout the care and support planning, or review, process. The person will be informed of both the benefits and responsibilities of receiving a Direct Payment to manage their own care and support.
Practitioners will assess the individual’s suitability to understand and manage a Direct Payment, this includes:
- Do they consent to have their care and support met via a Direct Payment
- Do they understand how a Direct Payment differs from care and support that Adult Social Care arranges for them
- Do they understand their responsibilities in managing the funds provided to meet the outcomes identified in the support plan
- Do they understand the financial assessment process
- Have they the ability to manage a Direct Payment, with support if necessary, including fulfilling employer and contractual responsibilities where appropriate
If the allocated practitioner is satisfied that the above criteria are met then the person will be referred to People Plus to discuss the Direct Payment further and arrange the set-up.
Please note, practitioners are required to notify the Direct Payment's team of the carers payment.
